CARPED

Creating a safe place to walk

CARPED is an action research group, established in 1989 with non-profit motive and for the purposes facilitating the process of peoples development aimed at better quality of life in all realms of urban and rural poor and tribal communities through community participation and action research.

CARPED is promoting child rights, community’s control over natural resources and participatory community development. CARPED has been active in the areas of preventing displacement of the tribal communities, environment education and legal aid as part of larger networks.

Comprehensive development of the children

Towards comprehensive development of the children, CARPED has facilitated formal and non-formal education centres, campaigning against employing children at domestic work, designed and developed educational kits for preschool children, immunisation in rural areas, and educational programmes in schools on environment, health and sanitation.

CARPED is planning to organise an event in India, on 8th of October 2003 to create a safe place to walk by public awareness campaigns in schools to teach injury prevention and safety precautions during travel, involving children, parents, teachers and community. We are also trying to coordinate with NGOs, Volunteers and CBOs to make this event successful through out INDIA

We continue the programme through out the year in all the states,

  • Compulsory and free education for all
  • To educate the drivers about the safety aspects of driving and walking on the street
  • To reduce the usage of vehicles as much as possible
  • To inculcate the habit of exercises among children and parents for good health
  • To introduce environment education as a part of curriculum
  • To provide playgrounds in schools and facilitate activities for recreation, arts and crafts
  • To ensure safety by changing school timings different than office timings
  • To conduct regular health check up in schools
