Forty-three programs representing 13 countries participated in the first International Walk to School Award. This award recognizes the outstanding achievements made to encourage children to walk to and from school and create healthier, safer and more sustainable communities. The winner of the first IWALK Award in 2003 was Buckinghamshire County Council in partnership with Holmer Green First School, in England.
